Measuring 10 1/2" long, and weighing 4.7 T. oz., this piece is an oyster ladle, a size that is slightly smaller than a full size soup.

The pattern, "Maryland," dates from the late 19th century, and features scrolls, acanthus leaves, and a spray of roses. The acanthus leaf detail extends onto the flange shoulders of the bowl, which has a gold washed interior and a shell on the heel of the backside.

An estate item always held in one family, there is a fancy, elaborated, Old English style "B" monogram set in the reserve area of the handle front.

This is in choice condition. There are no visible signs of wear, pattern detail remains clear and well-defined, and the finish is bright and even. The bowl is free of dents, nicks, or bends.

Marks are Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat. 1896."
