HOLD

The combination of an olive spoon and fork joined on opposite ends of one lengthy piece was a table serving item that was particularly popular in the second half of the 19th century.

This 10 3/4" long, weighty at just over 1.5 T. oz., item dates from this period and follows the general template for the form.

It has a twisted stem with a central, flat bar that is bright cut engraved in an Aesthetic style fern, leaf, and lily of the valley pattern. The fork portion is a trident, while the spoon bowl has notched shoulders, a central vee groove, and is pierced in a design that also suggests Aesthetic influences.

The fork front and back and the spoon interior have gold finishes.

A quality piece, and never monogrammed, this remains in very fine condition, absent bends, nicks, or burrs. The only signs of use are faint surface scratches and slight polishing wear to the engraving.

It is stamped "sterling" on the reverse, but is without a manufacturer's mark.
