References indicate that the Mexico City firm "Maciel" was primarily a silver holloware producer, which appears to be confirmed by the inventory of this maker's offerings available on the internet.

This large, 11 1/8" long, 4.8 T. oz. including the relatively small contribution from the turned wood handle, pie or pastry server is an uncommon example of Maciel flatware.

It has a flat, triangular shaped, 5 7/8" by 3 1/4" at the widest, blade with a hand hammered surface front and backsides. Finely worked in an Arts & Crafts manner, this also has softly beveled edges.

The heel is a flat plan that sits at a right angle to the blade and is joined to the handle with a round collar.

Likely dating from the 1930s, early in the history of the firm, it remains in outstanding condition. Apart from some light surface scratches on the silver, and one blemish on the backside near the mark, this shows no wear and has a brilliant, hand polished only, finish. The handle is without splits or discoloration.

Marks are "Maciel," "Made in Mexico," "Sterling," and "0.925" all in a square with lined edges.
