Aesthetic Engraved c. 1880 Sterling Silver Pickle Knife

A 7 1/8" long, just over .9 T. oz., this item is emblematic of its c. 1880 period.

Marked only "Sterling" and "27" on the otherwise plain backside, the maker is unidentified and neither the shape of the blade and handle, nor the particular engraving is definitive as they are singular.

Decidedly "Aesthetic," i.e. "Eastlake," in mode, the bright cut and wriggle work engraving portrays ferns, grasses, flowers, along with non-representational detailing.

A pickle knife that could double as a master butter, the angular blade with subtle scalloped detailing has a sharply raked end.

The handle is similarly angular, with a rounded end, and is inscribed with a finely rendered Old English "G" monogram.

In excellent condition, this is without polishing wear and shows an even patina. There are no bends, nicks, or scuffs and the engraving remains crisp.
