A large, 9 1/4" long, and robust, approximately 3.8 T. oz., item, this berry spoon is an early example of Alvin's 1905 Art Nouveau "Old Orange Blossom" pattern, informally known as "OOB."

Early pieces distinguish themselves from later ones and reproductions by their exceptionally fine detail and finish. In addition, the handle is up-tipped, while later made pieces had flat handle ends.

Additionally, the marks, Alvin's three part emblem, "Sterling," and "Patent," are finely rendered and a part of the die rather than stamped, which is further corroboration of age, as is the delicate flowing feathered script, period "UMB" monogram engraved vertically on the handle front.

This remains in superb estate condition. The portraiture retains all the details of the orange blossoms, right to the stamens in the centers, and delicate lines on the petals. The bowl is free of dents, bends, or burrs, and the finish is warm and bright.
