HOLD

This weighty at 1.9 T. oz., 9 1/8" long, coin silver serving spoon, is stamped "T. Sargeant" for Thomas, 1773-1834, "Hartford," and with a "bust" pseudo hallmark.

Thomas assumed the business of Jacob Sargeant, either Thomas's father or brother, upon relocating from Springfield, Massachusetts to Hartford, Connecticut, in 1795 (Flynt and Fales The Heritage Foundation Collection of Silver).

Slender, it has a rounded end handle with a slight "Tipt" backside, plain drop on the bowl, and narrow, beveled shoulders.

It is engraved with a "J or P C" feathered script monogram set sideways on the handle front.

In very fine condition, this is a well-crafted Federal period piece. The bowl is free of dents, bends, or tip wear, and the engraving remains crisp. The finish shows a warm patina.
