One of the last American companies to produce fully hand worked silver, "Old Newbury Crafters" items show the skill of the individual maker in every piece.

That is the case with this 8 1/2" long, 2.6 T. oz., solid silver, serving serving spoon in the company's 1939 Oak Leaf pattern.

Modernist/Deco in style, the handle has straight, tapered edges, with a tip that is surmounted by a representational oak leaf flanked by what are presumably two acorns.

The front of the handle and back of the 3" by 2" ovoid bowl are heavily hammered, the reverse of the handle shows light texturing, while the interior of the bowl is planished to a smooth surface

In 1965, ONC began the practice of imprinting a personal symbol for the specific crafter who made the piece, and that is the case with this which shows the "ship" emblem for "Chester A. Dow." Other marks are "Handwrought," "O.N.C.," and "Sterling."

In excellent estate condition, this singularly fine example of the silversmith's art shows no evidence of use apart from light surface scratches. There are no bends, dents, or nicks, and the finish is bright.
