Item #241A

This sterling silver spoon made by Gorham is 5 7/8" long. It is an unusual, non-line, design for that company, in that it has a twist handle shank. A not uncommon style among silver manufacturers, Gorham nonetheless rarely employed it. The form is enigmatic. The bowl is shaped like those found on egg spoons, but the size is somewhat large for that purpose. Plus the overall length would be a little clumsy for this use. This may have been intended as a condiment spoon, for horseradish or chow-chow perhaps, or even mustard. There is an elaborate "WHB" script monogram on the front, and the Gorham lion, anchor, G and word Sterling on the reverse. The condition is impeccable.
