This coin silver dessert or place spoon is 7 3/8" long. It has an interesting double provenance. First, it is stamped "Libby" and "Oppo. Milk St." Neither Flynt & Fales nor Ensko document this level of detail for Boston's Jacob G. L. Libby, so this mark holds archival value. Secondly, the feathered script inscription on the front reads, "A.B.F to Georgiana Andrews." Libby's working dates are 1820-46. Some genealogical sleuthing might well document the original owner of this piece, and a precise date. It is a quality made item, with substantial weight, 1.4 T. oz. It has a thick shank, beveled edges, and a plain end handle. The bowl is well formed, with but two slight dimples, and a nicely tapered end. The finish is well patinated.
