Gorham's Josepine can be identified from its "Pat. '55" mark, which this has. It is also stamped "Coin" and "S." This example is a 5 7/8" long, shell bowl sugar spoon. The dominant element of the design is an acanthus leaf surrounded by two scrolls surmounted by a small fan. This motif is expanded upon on the outside heel of the bowl. The condition is mint. The form is flawless and the finish is finely patinated.
