This coin silver mustard pot is stamped on the underside, "Lincoln & Foss," "Boston," "Pure Coin," and with an eagle and a large script "L." This firm, which for a period was Haddock, Lincoln & Foss, was a well regarded, mid 19th operation. This item represents exceptional style and craft and speaks well for the company. It stands 2 3/4" high to the top of the finial, has a body 2 3/4" wide, and an extreme width of 3 3/4" to the end of the handle. It weighs just over 4.0 T. oz., which is very heavy. The body is repoussed in a strawberry leaf and fruit design. The same leaf and fruit motif is repeated on the three cast feet, and the cast finial. The use of this fruit raises the question whether this could be a jam pot, but, large as this is, the scale does not support jam. The handle is solid and has scale-like detail, while the top rim is applied and hatched. The condition is superb. The interior retains its original gold wash. The body is free of dings. The legs are even and without bends. The finish is lustrous. There is some play in the hinge, but it is intact, and retains its pin.
