This circa 1890 sterling silver lettuce fork was made by Blackinton, whose emblem appears on the backside, along with the word Sterling. The pattern is not identified in any of the standard references. It is a scroll and floral (rose?) design. The quality of work in this puts it in a category of its own. It is 8 3/16" long overall, and weighs a hefty 1.7 T. oz. This is sturdy in a way that most lettuce forks are not. The shank is a full 1/8" thick. The serving area is generously proportioned and pierced. There is no monogram or monogram removal. The condition is outstanding. The pattern detail remains crisp and clear, while the finish is nicely patinated.
