This 8 7/8" long spoon in Durgin's Iris is a somewhat uncommon item. It is a preserve spoon, with an elongated, 3 1/4" x 1 3/4", plum-shaped bowl. The bowl is plain, absent the decoration that appears on such as berry and salad servers. The retailer on this was Philadelphia's Bailey, Banks & Biddle. The age of the piece is self-documenting, from the script "FP" monogram on the obverse, accompanied by the script "June 2nd, 1906." engraved on the reverse. The condition is immaculate. The pattern detail is precise and free of polishing wear. The bowl is well-shaped and absent burrs or dings. The original interior gold wash remains largely intact. The overall finish is nicely patinated. Marks are the Durgin D and the word Sterling, along with the retailer's stamp.
