$ 285
Item #572a

This sterling silver mug, produced by Gorham in 1885 according to the boar's head date symbol on the underside, stands 3 1/8" high, has a top diameter of 2 5/8", a bottom diameter of 2 1/2", and weighs 3.3 T. oz. Its design is very much of its period, in the aesthetic mode. The body sits on die rolled, 1/2" wide, decorative rim that splays outward. The underside of the lip is encircled by another die rolled border. The plain sidewalls are engraved in a floral design that evokes Far Eastern motifs and incorporates a butterfly. The name "Frankie" is engraved on the face, opposite the handle. The handle is hollow. The condition is outstanding. The shape remains round, the finish is lustrous, the walls are smooth, the engraving is crisp. There is a fleck of something loose in the handle which can be heard if the piece is rattled. Other marks besides the date symbol are the Gorham lion, anchor, G, the word Sterling, and the number 2404.
