This sterling silver napkin ring stands 1 1/2" high and is 1 3/8" in diameter. It weighs a hefty 1.4 T. oz. It is stamped on the interior "A. Stowell & Co.," "Sterling," and "K." Stowell was a Boston retailer. This may have been made by Gorham, and if so, the K would be a date letter for 1877. This is consistent with the aesthetic period, naturalistic engraving on the otherwise plain walls. It is also monogrammed "N.R. Walsh/Trinity." This could reference the landmark Trinity Episcopal Church at Copley Square in Boston. Or Rev. Walsh may be been associated with the populous 19th century Irish Roman Catholic community of Boston. Either way, it is a period item with an identifiable provenance. The condition is excellent. It remains round and is free of dents, dings or scratches. The engraving is still clear, with very slight softening of detail from polishing.
