The pair of tongs are 6 1/4" long. They are slender and have one trident end and one flat end. This form has been identified in an article in Silver Magazine as for pickles. The pattern is Gorham's Medallion. They are stamped with the Gorham lion, anchor, G and the words Pat. 1864. As there is no standard mark, they are presumably coin. This pattern was commonly retailed through Tiffany, and always for that firm made in sterling. This was generally so throughout the line, thus coin examples are scarce, and likely among Gorham's earliest Medallion production. These are in superb condition. The form is flawless, with no bends or other damage. The figural heads retain sharp detail. The finish is lustrous. There is a double "C" Victorian monogram on the arch.
