This sterling silver, jelly or large sugar shell spoon is 6 7/8" long and relatively heavy. It is marked for Boston's Bigelow, Bros & Kennard, and includes 925 in an oval. It is also engraved "1861" in script on the reverse, so this is early for sterling. Coin would be expected in this period. It is also inscribed with an Old English "C" on the front. There is stitchery engraving around the border of the sculpted handle end. The condition is excellent. The form and finish are perfect, with no dings, dents or tears in the bowl. The only sign of wear is slight softening of the engraving from polishing.
