This pair of coin silver tongs are 6 5/8" long, 1 3/4" wide at the arch, and 7/8" across at the top. They weigh a substantial 2.2 T. oz. The makers stamp is "Motts," for W. and J. Mott of New York, who Ensko dates as 1789. He notes they "issued the first trademan's tokens in the United States." This pair have sculpted arms, and cupped, shell-shaped grips. The top of the arch is engraved "MLW" in a period feathered script, while one arm is engraved "SS" in a later, art nouveau style. The condition is immaculate. This item is pristine, with no wear, cracks, or repairs.
