This sterling silver master knife is some large, 7 3/4" long, and solid weight. It is a mystery pattern, although quite similar to Gorham's "Italic" of 1868. It is a plain design, with a pedimented end, and an Old English "P" monogram on the reverse. The style looks as if it wants to be coin silver, but it is stamped "Sterling." It is also marked "J.N.L. & Co." There was a "J.N. Lewis & Co." of York, So. Carolina, but it is inconclusive whether this traces to that firm. The condition is very good. The overall form and finish are excellent. The cutting side of the blade is a little rough, and there is one minor wave in the blade.
