This coin silver fork is unusual in several ways. First, it is a mid 19th century example of a pattern, Fiddle Thread, that while common, was not produced in quantity by Gorham which manufactured this. Secondly it is stamped "Gorham & Co." which was a short-lived mark. Lastly it is imprinted "Pure Coin." This term was largely indigenous to New England, but again infrequently used by Gorham. The piece itself is 7 1/8" long and heavy. It was likely a tea fork, but might have been used as a lunch fork. It is inscribed on the front in script "E.A. Anthony." The condition is immaculate. The finish is lustrous. The tines are even, sharp and free of burrs, nicks or bends.
