This sterling silver sugar sifter is 6" long, and has a shell bowl that is approximately 2" in diameter and 1/2" deep. The bowl is finished in a bright gold wash inside and out. This piece dates circa 1865 and follows a design style that was popular then. It has a tubular stem with wire arms that attach to the bowl. The end is capped by a Gothic form pediment that incorporates a cattail pattern. The only mark is Sterling, so the maker is unknown. However, attribution for this style usually falls to Whiting, Wood & Hughes, or George Sharp. The condition is outstanding. Form and finish are flawless.
