This solid silver trophy stands 5 1/4" tall, has a top diameter of 2 7/8", and weighs 6.7 T. oz. It is a Doubles trophy from the Third Annual Tournament of Horace Partridge & Co., held in Manchester by the Sea, on Boston's North Shore in 1890 (please see image number 4 for the full text). It is a vase or tumbler form, with undulating sides, and elephant style base that sits on four ball feet. Manchester was, and remains, a gracious community on Cape Ann, part of larger area known as (Boston's) North Shore. A tournament held there in the late Victorian age would likely have been an occasion of social note. Indeed, the winner of this event, Fred S. Mansfield, is listed in Boston's 1893 Blue Book (reference is available online). The condition of the piece is excellent. Apart from a few essentially imperceptible surface pinpricks, the piece is flawless. Marks are the Whiting logo, the word Sterling, the number 1805, and the retailer's stamp, Boston's Shreve, Crump & Low.
