This sterling silver (milk) pitcher is generously proportionated. It stands 5 7/8" high to the top of the spout, measures 5 7/8" from handle end to spout tip, and sits on a pedestaled oval base that is 2 13/16" x 2 1/8". It is a solid 7.6 T. oz., with thick gauge walls and base. It is engraved "A.P.B." in Old English and "from her Brother, 1884," in script. The design is more evocative of the 1860's, though, than the 1880's. It is classical form, with a beaded border with rosette detailing, and a lofty, upraised handle. Marks on the underside are John Wendt's 925/1000 in a shield, plus Ball, Black & Co., New York. The association between these two firms is well documented. The condition is outstanding. The form is flawless, and the finish lustrous.
