This solid sterling silver platter spoon is a grand 11 3/8" long, and predictably heavy at 3.7 T. oz. The pattern is Durgin's late 19th century Watteau, which is a rococo design. This piece bears the stamp of Boston retailer Shreve, Crump and Low. At this scale, all the scroll, leaf, and rose details show to their fullest expression. This has a script "I(or J)BD" script monogram. It also has the original knob attachment on the backside of the handle, which serves to keep the piece from slipping into the platter. The condition is excellent estate. The form and the finish are pleasing, with a well-shaped bowl that is free of dings, dents or burrs. Slight surface scratches consistent with gentle use, are the only signs of wear on this. Marks are the Durgin D, and the word Sterling.
