In their Heritage Foundation work on New England silversmiths, Flynt & Fales describe Portsmouth, New Hampshire's Samuel Drowne as an "important workman, [who] made beautiful silver." This 5 3/4", coin silver spoon attests to that assessment. It is finely crafted in high style. The bowl is elegant, narrow and pointed, with a broadened tip. The slender shank broadens to a smooth, triangular end that has a refined "R * M" monogram. The reverse has an exposed drop and is stamped "S. Drowne" in script. The condition is immaculate.
