At 13 3/4" long, with a helmet shaped bowl that is 4 3/8" x 3 5/8" x 1", this soup ladle is massively scaled. It weighs a proportionately heavy 7.0 T. oz. The handle broadens to an inch and one half wide at the end, which provides for full expression of this fan-shaped design. The end of the handle also cants at about a 45 degree angle, providing for a good grip and balance on such a big and heavy piece. The bowl is plain, save for a flanged rim. It was originally finished with a gold wash, but this is mostly worn away. The reverse is monogrammed "E.O.W." in Old English script. The condition is outstanding. The form and pattern detail are flawless. The bowl is free of dings, dents, or burrs, but does show numerous surface pinpricking. Marks are WwH, Patent 1864, and an arrow, which may be a journeyman's mark.
