The basic form of this 6 1/8" long silver sugar shell was widely produced, and particularly so in New England where this likely originated (it is marked on Sterling, with no maker's designation). The engraving on this, however, does distinguish the piece from more common examples. It is a floral interpretation, the blossom of which is ragged or hairy, and the leaves long and trailing. It fits artfully on the handle, which is also monogrammed "L" in a feathered script. The bowl is an appealing shell form, with a largely intact gold wash. The condition is outstanding. There are no flaws, and the finish is finely patinated.
