This is an early coin silver goblet made by Tift & Whiting, later Whiting Company, while still in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. It is a lofty 6 1/2" high, with a top diameter of 3", and a base width of 2 3/4", and weighs 4.2 T. oz. It is engraved in script, "To My Husband, Dec. 25th, 1858," so its vintage is self-documenting, and its provenance implied. It is a decorative piece, with a beaded border, and an engine-turned and engraved body. The slender stem has a finely beaded base, and a knurled ring about half way up. The condition is outstanding. The piece is free of dings or dents, retains near perfect roundness, is absent polishing wear, and has an appealing finish. The Tift and Whiting mark is set deep in the hollow of the stem, on the underside of the bowl.
