This item is of exceptional design and historical interest. It is a large goblet or footed beaker that stands 5" tall overall, with 3" top and bottom diameters. It weighs 6.2 T. oz. The underside is stamped, "Lincoln & Foss, Pure Coin, Boston," with an Old English "L" and eagle. The body is baluster form, with an applied rolled rim. The base is a relatively short 1 1/4" high. These proportions suggest it is a beaker or cup rather than a goblet. It is extensively repoussed in an oak branch, leaf and acorn design. There is a reserve area that is engraved in script, "Presented to Capt. S.F. Barrett, as a token of respect, by Members of the, East Boston Watch, March 25th, 1854." East Boston remains a colorful neighbor on the Boston waterfront that was already a heavily built up neighborhood by the mid 19th century, so this piece has a lot of historical content. The condition is outstanding. There are no dents or body damage. It remains round, and the base sits evenly. The outline of the foot does show as an outline on the base of the interior, indicating it has been slightly impressed from having been set down hundreds of times in its history.
