This unusual piece in Towle's Old English has a perfectly flat, 1 5/8" diameter, round serving end, with a slightly raised lip on the upper edge. The form suggests a cucumber or tomato server, but the scale is too modest for this purpose. Petit four is an assumption, but only that. Old English is a late 19th century, rose and scroll design of quiet elegance. Relative to its size, this has substantial weight. It also has a cursive "W" monogram. The condition is excellent. The form and finish are appealing, with no dings, burrs or scratches on the serving portion, and no polishing wear on the design. Marks are the Towle emblem, Sterling, Pat. 1892, and the name of the retailer, H.B. Howland.
