This ice cream slicer in Gorham's late 19th century Old Baronial is 10" long and weighs a robust 3.5 T. oz. It is an early example that is solid sterling silver, i.e. not a silver-plate blade on a hollow handle. The pattern is figural, with the head of a lion surmounting the end of the handle. There is a cursive "AP" monogram. The condition is excellent. There is no polishing wear. The blade is straight and free of bends or burrs. It has a gold wash, which is partially polished down, so the surface, while smooth, appears a bit of mottled. Marks are the Gorham lion, anchor, G, and the words Sterling and Pat. 1898.
