In their foundational work on New England Heritage Foundation coin silver, Flynt and Fales identify two Deodet Williams, the earlier one in Hartford, Connecticut, and the later one in Boston, Massachusetts. Whether they are father and son is unknown, but an association is implicative. The mark on this 8 1/2" long, 1.4 T. oz., late coffin end coin silver tablespoon is attributed to the Boston Williams. He was born in ?1794 and advertised as early as 1811. This is a quality item in good condition. The overall form is excellent, with a well-shaped bowl. The bowl does show very slight dimpling in the base, and incipient tip wear. It likely has had a monogram removal, but since the handle surface is so flat, it is difficult to discern this.
