Ward & Bartholomew (Hartford) Coin Coffin End Teaspoon

This 5 1/2" long, coin silver teaspoon is stamped W&B for Ward and Bartholomew of Hartford, Connecticut. James Ward (b. 1768 in Guilford, Connecticut) was a partner in several partnership, with this one dating c. 1804-09. The piece is an artfully formed, coffin end design, with a period, block "C.W" monogram on the reverse, and a line drop. The condition is excellent. The form and finish are excellent. The bowl is well-shaped and free of tip wear. There are a couple of very slight dimples in the base.
