This platter or stuffing spoon carries the maker's mark for Peter, Ann, and William Bateman, members of the renowned clan of silversmiths who worked individually and collectively at various times late 18th to early 19th centuries. The date stamp on this, E, is for 1800. Other marks are a lion, crowned leopard, and regent's head. The piece is a generous 11 3/4" long, and weighs 3.2 T. oz. It has a plain, reverse tipt end, an exposed drop, and a feathered scroll "GIB" (?) monogram. The condition is very good. The form is excellent, with a finely patinated finish. There is slight softening of the monogram from polishing. The bowl is well-shaped, with only slight wear at the tip. There are about three very shallow dimples in the interior, and surface scratches consistent with age.
