This pair of matching, coin silver master salts are 2 1/4" across and stand 1 1/2" high. The combined weight is a moderately heavy 2.2 T. oz. Each stands on three hoof feet that are attached to a bulbous, stylized shell where they join the body. There are applied rims that have a knurled design on them, and the body is repoussed in a floral design. There is a reserve area, but it is not monogrammed, nor has there been a monogram removal. Marks on the underside are "M.G." and the number 6. Presumably this is for Michael Gibney, the well known New York silversmith. Another possibility is Miles Gorham of New Haven, but his dates are too early for the mid 19th century style of these. The condition of both is immaculate. The forms and finishes are flawless. They sit evenly and are without polishing wear.
