Gorham's Poppy is a lush, early 20th century art nouveau design. This example is a 5 7/8" long, sterling silver sugar spoon. This has a cursive MSL monogram on the front, and carries the Gorham lion, anchor, G mark on the reverse, along with Pat. 1902. The bowl has decorated shoulders and a flanged rim. There are faint traces of an original gold wash in the design on the shoulders, but this is essentially polished away. The condition is excellent. The pattern remains crisp and well-defined. The bowl is well-shaped, and free of dings, dents, or burrs.
