This 12 1/4 long, 6.5 T. oz., sterling silver soup ladle is an exemplary piece of Gorham's 1880's figural Fontainebleau. At this scale, the courtly and youthful male figure shows to fullest advantage. Since there is virtually no polishing wear, every detail of the design is clear to they eye. The end result is a virtual portrait in silver. The rest of the piece is in equally fine condition. The 3 1/2" front to back, 4 1/4" wide, and 1 1/4" deep bowl is finished in a matte gold wash that is bright cut in a floral and leaf motif. The bowl, as with the entire item, is free of any wear, including dings, dents or scratches. The reverse has a fancy, feathered "KT" monogram (placed to read "upside down"). Marks are the Gorham lion, anchor, G, the word Sterling, and the number 2.
