This solid sterling silver ice cream knife, or slice, in Whiting's Louis XV is an early example. It has a solid sterling silver (versus a hollow handle with a silver-plate blade). It is 10 1/2" long, and weighs a robust 3.4 T. oz. The blade is substantial, with an overall length of 6 3/4" and a maximum width of 1 3/4". The end is pointed end, and the upper edge is scalloped. There is an Old English "S" monogram. The condition is outstanding. The blade is even and free of burrs, nicks or bends. Pattern detail is clear, with no polishing wear, and the finish is lustrous. Marks are the Whiting logo, and the words Sterling and Pat. 1891.
