This sterling silver master butter knife is 7 7/16" long and quite heavy relative to its size. It is a Thread pattern, and has the blade set at a right angle to the handle. There is a cursive "AJB" monogram on the handle. The maker is John L. Westervelt, whose name appears on the blade, along with his pseudo hallmark, and the word Sterling. Westervelt worked in both coin and sterling, with this perforce being a later piece, perhaps circa 1870. The condition is very good. Apart from surface scratches on the blade, and a slight unevenness at the tip, it is flawless.
