This pair of coin silver tongs is 6 3/8" long, and bear the stamp for New York's Peter Field, Jr. (the P is rubbed, but the rest of the mark is distinct). They are simply constructed, with flat legs that taper toward the spoon bowl grips, and broaden substantially at the 7/8" wide arch. The arms each have an angular cut that suggests a coffin end style, dating these to the early 19th century. This is engraved in a fancy, feathered "BP" or "BT." The condition is outstanding. There are no bends, burrs, cracks or breaks. The finish is finely patinated. There are two lines on the underside of the arch. This is no damage, but scoring marks as a result of the engraver cutting deeply when setting the monogram.
