This sterling silver coffee spoon is 4 1/2" long, and relatively heavy. It has four French touch marks that suggest a date of 1838. There is a first standard used 1819-1838. There is also a guaranty mark with a bigorne on the opposite side. Given that the bigorne was introduced in 1838, and the standard mark discontinued that year, the 1838 attribution seems conclusive. Lastly, the maker's stamp, the letters of which are PL, appears in a lozenge adopted in 1838. The piece is in superb condition, and has an especially robust bowl. There is no inscription or removal.
