E.M. Gibbs (Norwich, NY) Coin Silver Cream Ladle
$ 65
Born in Litchfield, Connecticut, Eli Mason Gibbs is identified as working in Norwich, New York 1820-30. That dating is consistent with the style of this 6 3/4", coin silver cream or sauce ladle. It is an elegant looking piece, with an unusually long and slender handle. It is engraved "ED" in a large, feathered script hand. The oval bowl is 1 3/4" wide, 1 1/4" back to front, and rather shallow. The touchmark is "E.M. Gibbs," as illustrated. The condition is excellent. The form is perfect, with no dings or dents in the bowl. Apart from surface scratches and some softening of the monogram from polishing, the piece shows no signs of wear.
