This citrus (likely orange) spoon is 5 7/8" long. It weighs .8 T. oz. and has a good sense of heft in the hand. The design is alate 19th century scroll, acanthus leaf, and floral interpretation, with a gold washed bowl that is acid etched "Fitchburg." Stamped "Pat'd Appl'd For," and Sterling, it is without a maker's mark. Given the proximity of Fitchburg to Gardner, both in north central Massachusetts, a possible maker was Frank Smith. In fact, the design is quite reminiscent of his Cellini. Whatever the source, it is a well crafted and executed piece that is in immaculate condition.
