Kirk's King dates from the first quarter of the 19th century, and remained in production under the Kirk name for a century and a half, and then longer under Stieff's ownership, so there are ample examples of the pattern in circulation. This 5 3/4" long teaspoon, however, dates from deep in the history of Kirk, and examples from this period are not so common. Stamped "S.K 11/12," the later being one of Baltimore's individual assay marks, this ranges from as early as 1830. It has a hefty feel in the hand, although its weight is a moderate 1.0 T. oz. There is a feathered script "H.H.W." on the reverse, along with an exposed thumb drop on the heel of the bowl. The condition is excellent. Pattern detail remains clear, and the bowl is free of tip wear. There are surface scratches commensurate with age.
