John Cook's earliest associations were with William Gale and his last connection was apparently with George Shiebler. This c. 1868 right angle, coin silver master butter knife is in the Jenny Lind pattern, which is identified with Albert Coles. All of these makers were New York based and worked in overlapping times and locales. The piece is a generous 7 1/4" long, and weighty, at 1.5 T. oz. The blade is fully engraved on the outward facing side, and has an engraved detail on the backside, underneath the J C in diamonds mark. There is no monogram or removal. The condition is very good. The blade is free of burrs or bends, but shows a little polishing softening of the bright cut work. Pattern detail remains well-defined.
