$ 250
Item #603b

This cup and saucer combination were made by Gorham. Both pieces carry the lion, anchor, G hallmark, the number 230, and the word Sterling. These read like coin, and may date from Gorham's transition to sterling in 1868. The number suggests a mid 1860's period. They are a handsome matched pair, simply styled and with a crossed ribbon motif that repeats on the rim of the saucer, and lip and handle of the cup. The plate is 5 1/2" in diameter, sits on a 1 5/8" wide rimmed base, and weighs a full 4.5 T. oz. The cup stands 3" tall, is 2 7/8" in diameter, and has a maximum reach of 3 3/4" to the end of the handle. At 4.2 T. oz., it is proportionately heavy to the base. There are no monograms, inscriptions or removals on either piece. The condition is outstanding. The pair are free of dings, dents, or burrs, and have a lustrous finish.
