Johnson & Godley (Albany, NY) Coin Tablespoon
$ 55
This coin silver tablespoon produced by Johnson & Godley of Albany, New York, is generously proportioned. It is 8 7/8" long overall, has a bowl that is 3" by 1 3/4" at the widest, and a handle with a reverse tipt end that is 1" wide. It weighs 1.5 T. oz. It is an exceptionally fine example with an appealing finish, and a well-formed bowl with a pointed end. It is engraved "Libbie Hoag" in script. Online sources offer an Elizabeth A. Hoag Dewey, with dates of December 31, 1824 to November 11, 1890 buried in the Sloansville Cemetery near Schnectady, New York. There is a good likelihood that this is the person who owned this spoon. The convergences of time and place fit closely. Marks are the J&G emblem and the full name, Johnson & Godley.
