This sterling silver fork is 7 1/4" long and was made by Gorham in the 1860's. The pattern is Medallion, which is a generic style produced by many makers, of which Gorham's was one of the most successful. Widely distributed, this piece was retailed by George Webb & Co. of Baltimore according to the stamp on the reverse. Other marks include the Gorham lion, anchor, G, Sterling, and Pat. 1864. There is an Old English "G.H.C." monogram on the reverse. The piece is in good condition. The helmeted male figure shows some surface wear, but retains ample detail. The tines have slight tip wear, and the two center ones may have been trimmed to even the ends.
