This is a wonderful antique french part frosted or satin glass figural fish shape knife rest or knife holder dating to 1890-1915. The fish measures 1 inch high by 3.5 inches long by .5 wide and is marked on the foot Depose YER. Depose was not used in France after 1915. The fish is in excellent, mint condition. This is a really attractive antique victorian silver plated knife rest I brought back from England recently. It measures 4.25 inches long and stands 1.75 inches high. It has ball ends rather like a sputnik satellite and a center bar like a turned banister. The knife rest dates to 1890-1910. Knife rests were a victorian invention to keep the table cloth clean. This is a great pair of sterling silver sugar tongs with claw ends made by Wm.B.Durgin of Concord, New Hampshire USA. I believe the pattern is called Chatham. The marks or the D for Durgin, Sterling Pat'd and the tongs date 1900-1920. The box has a gothic engraved initial C, I think. This carpet ball or carpet bowl is over 100 years old and is of original glazed hard fired clay. The design is an interesting one of white and black plaid. Plaid was a favorite of Queen Victoria.
