It is made of painted turned wood and measures 4.5 inches long by 2.5 inches in diameter. It was obviously used as there are quite a few scratches on the head where the needle grazed during darning, but generally in very good condition. Oak Darning Mushroom English Antique Wood Treen Sewing: Needlework: Pre 1900   item # 416516 (stock# 2954)  click for details Antiques At Time Was 360-477-4128 $38.00  This is a great antique victorian darning mushroom or darner we brought back from England last trip. This wooden or treen oak darner measures 3.5 inches long by 2.75 inches in diameter with a hand turned handle and dates from the 1880-1900.
